Myths About Granite Countertops

Posted on

Choosing the countertops for your kitchen is a very important decision. The countertops become one of the major visual aspects of the kitchen. Also, they serve many important functions in the kitchen because they provide the surfaces where food is prepared. There are plenty of myths out there about granite countertops. When you are thinking about having them installed in your own kitchen, you are going to want to make sure you are learning the truth about them instead of believing the myths. Here are some of the more commonly told myths about granite countertops.

Myth 1: Granite countertops are a fad

Some home materials and decor do indeed come in and out of style, and in some cases, it can happen rather quickly. When possible, you should steer clear of fad materials, because it won't be long before you have to replace them to stay current with trends. Luckily, granite countertops are not a fad. They have been consistently used in homes for decades now and you shouldn't expect this to stop any time soon.

Myth 2: Granite countertops require regular maintenance

Some people think that granite countertops require more maintenance than other countertops because they are sealed. However, having them sealed is something that's simple to have done and once it has been done, you won't have to worry about things like staining, scratching, and even burning happening to the countertops. In this way, granite countertops end up needing less upkeep than the lesser durable options that will need a lot more repair work.

Myth 3: Granite always looks the same

While it's widely known that granite comes in many colors, some people think that the patterns in the granite always look similar. This is so far from the truth because each slab of granite countertop will have its own veining patterns and specks. This is great news because you won't want to have repeating patterns throughout the kitchen.

Myth 4: There's not much difference between marble and granite

There are some people who don't think there is really much of a difference between marble and granite countertops. While there are some similarities between marble and granite, there are also big differences. Marble is a softer stone than granite. This makes marble countertops easier to damage in different ways. Also, marble can get a dull look to it after a while, whereas granite will keep looking great for years to come.
